Stump grinding or full excavation, depending on what you plan for the spot.
There are two ways to get rid of a stump. Grinding chews the surface roots and base down below grade so grass can grow. Excavation removes the stump and roots entirely so you can plant a new tree in the same place.
Grinding: best when grass is going back in.
The grinder chews up the surface roots and base of the trunk to an average depth of a couple of inches below grade. Once the grindings are removed and topsoil goes in, the area can be seeded or sodded and the stump is gone for good.
It is the fastest, least disruptive option and works in tight backyards where an excavator cannot go.
Excavation: best when you want to plant in the same spot.
Excavating a stump removes it and the root mass in its entirety. That is the right choice when a new tree or a foundation, patio or fence is going where the old tree stood.
Both services come with options, from leaving the pile of grindings for you to spread, to hauling everything, bringing in soil and finishing with seed or sod.

FAQ
Stump Grinding questions before you call
Can you grind stumps from trees another company removed?
Yes. Stump-only jobs are welcome, and we can usually group several stumps into one visit.
Will grinding damage nearby lawn or hardscape?
We protect the surrounding area and keep the grinder to the stump and its surface roots. Any grindings are contained and removed if you choose that option.
